LOCAL MATTERS.

THE POLICE was duly organised yesterday, the members appearing and taking the necessary oaths. The officers were assigned as follows:—

First District.—Captain, Wm. Lambert; Assistant Captain, Wm. E. Meredith; First Sergeant, Hampton North; Second Sergeant, James Edgerton.
Second District.—Captain, Robert Beck; Assistant Captain, George W. Casserly; First Sergeant, Charles A. Howard; Second Sergeant, John Hagan.

Third District.—Captain, Andrew J. McCarty; Assistant Captain, Wm. N. Burkhead; First Sergeant, Daniel Sweeney; Second Sergeant, Robert C. McIntyre.

Ten policemen were detailed for the first district, twenty-four for the second district, and ten for the third district.
