I bought a painting in Sacramento several years ago of a religious nature. The Artist's name is not completely clear, however, the closest possible match which makes sense is Gustav Hensel. Information about him includes his birth in 1874, his graduation from a Lutheran seminary in Berlin in 1903 and his arrival in the USA in 1906 where he pastored a church possibly in Salkville, WI. He then went to San Francisco and pastored at a church called St. John's Reformed Church in 1914 through 1922. He was known to paint portraits and 'religious genre', mostly not signed. he spent 3 years as a missionary in Africa. He retired in the east and died in 1953.
