Virginia Deckelman, Broadway Dancer
Virginia G. Deckelman of Novato, a former Broadway and television dancer, died yesterday at a local hospital following a short illness. She was 56.
Mrs. Deckelman, who lived at 4 Ziola Court, was a native of Texas and began her show business career in Dallas in 1936.
She moved to New York to further her dancing career and using the stage name Virginia Grimes, appeared in broadway shows including "Babes In Arms" and "The Flag is Born." She also appeared in Billy Rose's "Aquacade" at the 1939 New York World's Fair.
Mrs. Deckelman later was a regular dancer on the Milton Berle show. She ended more than 20 years of show life in 1959.
Two years later she moved to San Francisco with her husband, Robert C. Deckelman, and in 1966 moved to Novato.
Prior to her death she had worked 10 years with the General Accident, Fire and Life Assurance Corp. in San Francisco.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a stepson, Robert C. Deckelman; a sister, Elizabeth Giles of Texas; and a brother, Langsford Hooker of Florida.
