Mary S. Tranter
Mary Schlosser Tranter of San Rafael, a member of a pioneer Marin family, died Monday, Dec. 10, 1990, at the Fifth Avenue Convalescent Hospital in San Rafael. She was 88.
Mrs. Tranter was born in San Rafael and was a lifelong resident of San Rafael.
She graduated from Dominican College in San Rafael and trained at the former Hahnemann Hospital in San Francisco to become a registered nurse. She served as a nurse in Marin and San Francisco for many years.
Mrs. Tranter was a member of the Marin County Historical Society, California Nurses Association and St. Paulís Episcopal Church in San Rafael.
She is survived by two cousins, William Vanderbilt of San Anselmo and Henry Schroeter of Daly City. Her husband, Dr. Charles Tranter died earlier.
Mrs. Tranterís maternal grandfather was William P. Vanderbilt, a Tomales pioneer and Marin County assessor. Her father, John W. Schlosser, was a building inspector for the city of San Rafael and founded a San Rafael lumber company.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paulís Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael.
Her family asked that memorial contributions go to St. Paulís Church or the Marin County Historical Society.
Arrangements are by Keatonís Mortuary in San Rafael.
