Max S. Wuthmann
San Rafael resident
Max Schmidt Wuthmann was an artist who studied watercolors at the San Francisco Art Institute.
He died July 4 after a brief illness at 75.
Mr. Wuthmann was born in San Francisco and moved to Marin from Brisbane in 1984.
He attended Pomona College and the San Francisco Art Institute.
After serving as a flight instructor for the U.S. Army, he worked at the company his grandfather founded, Schmidt Lithograph Co., in San Francisco for 20 years.
He also worked at Georgia Pacific and All West Container Co. as a display designer.
“He proudly drove a mint condition 1966 red VW bug,” said his daughter, Gay Vail of Marinwood.
Swimming, golf and country western dancing were favorite activities.
Mr. Wuthmann is also survived by two other daughters, Lisa Wuthmann of Sunnyvale and Starr Coatney of Santa Clara; a son, Mark Wuthmann of San Jose; a brother, Ernest Wuthmann of Redwood City; and four grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held Aug. 10 in Palo Alto.
