Mary Santina Pedroli
Came from Italy at 19
Mary Santina Pedroli, a native of Italy and a resident of San Rafael for 68 years, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 1990, at Marin General Hospital, after a long illness. She was 87.
Mrs. Pedroli was born and reared in Ispra, Italy. She came to San Rafael with her family when she was 19.
Her first job in San Rafael was as a food server in the Danish Home. When she was 20, Mrs. Pedroli met Ernest Grossi, a bakery delivery driver. They were married and settled in San Rafael.
They had a son, who died at the age of 18 months, said her daughter, Dolores Paganetti of San Rafael. Mrs. Pedroli later divorced, and resumed her maiden name. Mr. Grossi died in 1962.
Mrs. Pedroli loved to crochet, garden and spend time with her grandsons, her daughter said.
“She loved her grandsons more than anything,” Mrs. Paganetti said.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Raphael’s Mission Chapel in San Rafael. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in San Rafael. A vigil service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Keaton’s Chapel in San Rafael.
Her family asked that memorial contribution so to Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael.
