Former Officer At Prison Dies

Leon H. Potter, a former San Quentin Prison correctional officer, died yesterday of a heat attack at his Novato home. He was 74.

Potter, of 835 Reichert Avenue, had worked at San Quentin from 1934 to his retirement in 1955. He was born in Cuyler, N. Y. and came to Novato in 1920 following his marriage to his wife Eliza, who survives. He operated a chicken ranch in Novato, first on Olive Avenue, later on Vineyard Road, until being employed by the prison.

He is survived also by a sister, Mrs. Charles Schuler of Gregory, Mich.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Redwood Chapel, Novato, with inurnment at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael.
