Beatrice Wilmans de Jung Rice, January 5, 1921 ~ May 8, 2002
Beatrice, lovingly known as Bede, was a long time resident of Belvedere, arriving as a newlywed in 1943. She married Edward Russell Rice, III of Belvedere on February 2, 1943. Russell died in September of 1993. They are survived by Michael W. Rice of New York and Palm Springs, Alexis R. Lydecker of San Anselmo, Stephanie Rice of Belvedere, Edward Russell Rice, IV, of Bainbridge Island, Washington and Timothy W. Rice of Roberts, Montana. Bede has also left behind 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Bede was born in San Francisco and grew up in Berkeley and Sausalito. She attended both the Anna Head School in Berkeley and Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley and then onto University of California at Berkeley where she joined the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Bede was a housewife and yet had time in her early years for Sunny Hills and other charities. In her later years she was a member of the Century Club and Town and Country Club in San Francisco. She was also a member of the Museum Auxiliary and other museums as well. Bede and Russell traveled the world together after the children were gone. They played golf and traveled with their close friends as well. An avid reader, Bede was content to sit quietly with soft music playing. Although ill for the last few years, her loving quiet spirit left us with many gifts and memories. She was a wonderful friend to many, a loving mother and grandmother, and she will be dearly missed. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service Friday, May 31, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Belvedere. Memorial donations may be sent to St. Stephen's, 3 Bayview Avenue, Belvedere, CA 94920, or Belvedere-Tiburon Landmark Society, P.O. Box 134, Tiburon, CA., 94920 or Hospice of Marin, 150 Nellen Avenue, Corte Madera, CA. 94925. RUSSELL & GOOCH FUNERAL CHAPEL 270 Miller Avenue, Mill Valley 415-388-1573.
