Month’s Illness Fatal To Richard Kane

Richard Kane, an employee of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company for the past 20 years, and husband of Mrs. Hilma Kane, passed away last Monday at his home here, after an illness of nearly a year.

Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon from the Keaton Mortuary, following (sic) by interment at Mt. Tamalpais cemetery.

Mr. Kane was 56 years of age, and a native of San Francisco. He was a son of the late Captain and Mrs. Wm. Kane, and brother of former Chief of Police Sabin Kane.

Besides his wife, he leaves five children, Ethel Kane, San Francisco, and Walter James, Jack and Bob Kane of San Rafael. His sisters are Mrs. Flora McLaughlin, San Rafael, and Mrs. Rosella Hart of Willits.

Mr. Kane while with the P.G and E. was a meter reader and collector, and he was one of the volunteer members of the San Rafael Fire Department.

Mr. Kane spent the greater part of his early life on the sea. He was in the employ of the Pacific Steamship Company for many years, and most of his time with that company was on board the S.S. Mariposa, which plied between Pacific Coast ports and Australia and New Zealand.

He was with the Stringer Storage Company in San Francisco for a few years.

During the World War Kane served in the quartermaster’s department of the United States Shipping Board with headquarters in San Francisco.
